Reflexology is a relaxing treatment using gentle pressure on points of the feet that relate to all body parts. Reflexologists work from maps of pre-defined pressure points on the feet and hands (see map links below). These pressure points are reputed to connect directly through the nervous system and affect the bodily organs and glands.
By stimulating these points blockages can be released allowing energy to flow freely through the body, encouraging the body's natural healing process. The pressure and gentle massage relieves tension, improves circulation and stimulates nerve endings all helping to promote healing.

A Brief History of Reflexology
Reflexology can be traced back to ancient civilisations in China, Egypt and India. In China there are records dating back 4000 years ago of hand and foot therapy being used. There are pictures in a tomb in Egypt from 2500BC depicting people giving others treatments on their hands and feet with the hieroglyphics stating 'Do not let it be painful'.
This type of therapy was not brought to the West until the early 20th Century. An American surgeon, Dr. William Fitzgerald found that by applying pressure to the tips of toes and fingers a corresponding part in the body could be 'anaesthetised'. He founded Zone Therapy, dividing the body into 10 equal parts running from the top of the head to the tips of the toes.
Another American, a physiotherapist named Eunice Ingham developed Fitzgerald's Zone Therapy and working on the hands and feet she was able to map out the entire body. Her work was practised and taught to other medical professionals and became the basis of modern reflexology.
Healing Reaction – It’s a good thing!
The Healing Reaction is the name for reactions following a holistic treatment. Don’t panic this is a good sign and will only last 24 to 48 hrs after the treatment. This shows that the body is beginning to heal itself by eliminating toxins and re-balancing.
Symptoms may include:
Increased energy levels
Lowered energy levels
Increase in going to the loo
Cold like symptoms
Emotional / teary
These symptoms are only temporary and will subside as the body gets healthier.
Re-balance your Body & Mind.
Holistic therapy is NOT an alternative to conventional medical care and as a professional therapist I would always advise you to see a doctor if your symptoms are of concern.
